Qualifications:
The Magpie Consort (MC), a mixed voice ensemble of 16-20 singers with a wide-ranging and adventurous repertoire, based in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Artistic Director. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years experience leading community-based choral ensembles including management of auditions, repertoire selection/programming, rehearsal planning, and other organizational and administrative duties as needed. A degree in Choral Conducting or the equivalent experience is desired. As our current number of singers has decreased, you will have the unique opportunity to build this vocal ensemble almost from the ground up – approximately 10-12 new voices will need to be auditioned into the group. The Artistic Director serves the Magpie Consort on a contractual basis. The contract is renewable pending a satisfactory performance review. A multi-year contract can be negotiated after the first full year. Compensation is negotiable within budgetary constraints. Job Description • Provide overall artistic leadership and direction at regular rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances • Audition new members • Select and develop repertoire for concerts, typically 2 series (winter and spring) of 3 concerts each season • Select and hire instrumentalists as needed for programming, subject to budgetary limits • Attend MC Board of Directors meetings and general business meetings as necessary to present and discuss recommendations for future programs/projects and to report on any programs/projects underway at the time of any such meeting • Assist the MC Board of Directors in developing and implementing MC policies and future direction including choral conferences, MC outreach, recording projects• Assist the MC Board of Directors in fundraising and developmental activities Candidates must submit a letter of application along with a résumé and two letters of reference.
