Duruflé Requiem at Westlake UMC
Saturday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
The combined choirs of Westlake United Methodist Church and First UMC of Cuyahoga Falls will present Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem as part of the WUMC Performing Arts Series. The work will be performed with chamber orchestra with the chorus totaling about 90 singers. Andy Call is the conductor and Dean Wagner is the organist.
Perhaps the most elegant Requiem ever written, Duruflé's setting utilizes lush orchestration of rich harmonies. Duruflé, a prolific organist, had only fourteen works published during his lifetime - due partly to his constant revisions of his compositional efforts. He was heavily influenced by Gregorian chants, which play a prominent role in the Requiem.
Please come to enjoy this evening of remarkable music, followed by Greater Cleveland’s best post-concert reception!
